"Footloose is an exciting show that makes some of us hearken back to the 1980s," Director Shaun Moe said in the statement. "I wanted to direct and choreograph Footloose because it is just so much fun to work on. It has the traditional conventions of American teenage rebellion, young love, comic relief and high-energy songs and dances. It's the sort of show that leaves you singing as you head to the exits. Beyond the more popular songs, are some gems of musical theater, such as 'Mama Says,' which brings down the house.
"At its core, it's a show about Rev. Shaw Moore and his battle with heartache, an authentic yearning to protect his flock, and how he comes to terms with letting go of the past," he continued. "Despite being a screen-to-stage adaptation, the characters have a depth that isn’t present in many other such shows, and the challenge of this show is to be able to balance the high-energy dancing and fun with the seriousness that needs to be given to the conflicts of Rev. Moore inside and outside of himself and his own home."
