Parts of Clemyjontri Park to be Closed for Improvements
Work will start after Labor Day, according to Fairfax County Park Authority.
The Fairfax County Park Authority will replace the rubber surface on the playground at Clemyjontri Park, in McLean this fall, according to a news release from FCPA. Here’s more from FCPA about what to expect:
Phased construction will begin after Labor Day and continue through the end of November 2014. During this time the majority of the playground will be open for play; however, portions of the playground will be closed for improvements. The project requires closing the drop-off area and rerouting a walkway during different phases of the work, and some of the accessible parking spaces will be closed for the duration of the project.
The project will cost approximately $1 million dollars and is primarily funded through Park Bond dollars. Park Services Division Director Barbara Nugent said, “We know this project will be inconvenient for visitors and will impact use of the Liberty Swing and picnic area, and we’re working diligently to lessen the effects on our visitors. We ask for patience as we address this critically needed site improvement.”

Six picnic tables and pop-up tents will be placed in a grassy area to mitigate the loss of the canopy picnic shelter during the first phase of surface renovation. Construction is taking place in the fall after peak visitation in the summer. The rubber surface also requires cooler temperatures to cure and set properly.
The project will be completed in three phases. While Phase 1 (Rainbow Room/Schoolhouse, including the Liberty Swing and shade structure) is under construction, all other play areas will remain open. When Phase 1 is complete, it will be opened to the public and Phase 2 (Moovin-n-Groovin) will be closed. Once Phase 2 is completed, it will be opened to the public and Phase 3 (Fitness-n-Fun) will be closed.Security fencing will be provided, with signage, to close off construction areas.Portions of the accessible parking will be closed for the duration of the project, and the entire drop-off area will be closed during various project phases. Both areas will be fenced and signed. A short section of the walkway at the drop-off area will be rerouted around the drop-off area. This is the pedestrian walkway that enters the park from Georgetown Pike paralleling the park entrance, which is the access route from the overflow parking lot along Georgetown Pike and Langley Fork Park.
