Restaurant Near McLean Named One Of The Best In America

GREAT FALLS, VA—Great Falls may not be your first thought when you consider the DC food scene. It turns out Northern Virginia's best restaurant is the hidden gem found in Great Falls.

The French restaurant L'Auberge Chez Francois has been named to reservations website Open Table's 100 Best Restaurants in America for 2017. It's the only restaurant representing Northern Virginia on the list and one of two from the state.

The Great Falls restaurant is a frequent entry for Open Table's list. The eatery is a culinary journey to the charming French town of Obernai, where founder François Haeringer grew up, according to the restaurant's website. Haeringer immigrated to DC in 1948, bringing with him his talent for cooking classic French dishes. He opened the restaurant in 1976 on a six-acre property of rolling green hills. Today guests can continue to feel Haeringer's spirit in the dishes he prepares and the family heirlooms and murals depicting his birthplace.

The results are based on an analysis of more than 12 million reviews left by users of the site. "The 100 Best Restaurants in America for 2017 are consistently putting out delicious dishes, providing impeccable service, and paying attention to every detail to orchestrate one-of-a-kind dining experiences time and again," Open Table wrote.

One Open Table user recently wrote about L'Auberge Chez Francois, "For decades, this has been one of the finest French restaurants in America. That has not changed. Everything about it is superb -- service, ambiance, menu."

L'Auberge Chez Francois helped the DC area dominate Open Table's list. This year, eight D.C.-area restaurants have made the list; Chez Billy Sud, Kinship, Harold Black, Le Diplomate, Marcel's, Rasika and Joe's Seafood all scored spots from DC.

The Great Falls restaurant made the list last year as well. L'Auberge Chez Francois is located at 332 Springvale Road.
