Fairfax County Schools Make Weather Call For Jan. 4

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — For the second day in a row, Fairfax County Public Schools will cancel school as winter weather affects the region.

There will be no virtual or in-person learning on Tuesday. Along with closures of FCPS schools and central offices on Tuesday, School Age Child Care Centers will be closed. Cancellations include extracurricular activities, interscholastic contests, team practices, field trips, middle school after-school programs, professional learning and training courses, Adult High School and GED, and recreation programs and community use by outside groups. Essential personnel should follow their supervisor's direction. Emergency administrative leave is authorized for other FCPS employees. The Jan. 4 Fairfax County School Board's Capital Improvement Plan and Bi-Annual Public Hearings will be rescheduled.

FCPS plans to announce a decision on COVID-19 testing site access Tuesday morning. Updates to the schedule will be shared on the FCPS testing web page.

A blanket of snow was dumped over Fairfax County and the region through early Monday afternoon. The region is under a winter storm warning until 4 p.m. Monday as heavy snow brought predictions of 5 to 10 inches of accumulation, per the National Weather Service.
