Robert Redford-Founded Sundance Store Opens In Mosaic District

FAIRFAX, VA—Sundance, an apparel, accessory and home decor brand founded by Robert Redford, has opened a store in the Mosaic District, 2910 District Avenue, Fairfax. The opening weekend begins on Thursday, Nov. 1.

The brand chose the Mosaic District as its first DC area location. "We are thrilled to be opening our store in the Mosaic District in Fairfax, VA, a dynamic and diverse community, one rich in culture and artistic expression," said CEO Matey Erdos in a news release. "Sundance takes great pride in celebrating the spirit of freedom, independence and creativity. Fairfax is a clear fit for the Sundance brand through our mutual appreciation for independent and creative expression."

Products at Sundance include women's and men's apparel and footwear, jewelry, accessories, art and home décor. The brand also offers a collection of artisan-made jewelry exclusively online.

During the grand opening weekend, Sundance will donate a portion of proceeds to McLean Project for the Arts. Erdos says, "Sundance supports the mission and work of the McLean Project for the Arts. We celebrate like-minded organizations who advance great artists of the future by offering a platform to experience the power of art and to be exposed to art education. We look forward to a longstanding relationship with McLean."

In 1989, Redford founded Salt Lake City-based Sundance—the name is a reminder of his breakout 1969 film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." Sundance started as a catelog and has expanded to 12 stores: in Corte Madera, California; Lone Tree, Colorado; Edina, Minnesota; Dallas; Southlake, Texas; Scottsdale, Arizona; Tigard, Oregon; San Diego; Alpharetta, Georgia; Leawood, Kansas; Nashville, Tennessee; Deer Park, Illinois; and an outlet store in Salt Lake City.

Ten of the Sundance stores have opened since 2015. The Mosaic District store is one of four set to open by the end of the year.
