Softball Tournament Raises $50,000 for McLean Charity
The money was contributed to Our Military Kids, which supports kids of active or injured military servicemen and women.

A softball tournament in New York City’s Central Park earlier this summer helped raise $50,000 for a McLean-based charity that supports children of military soldiers and veterans.
The 16th annual tournament was sponsored by the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) for the seventh year in a row. It raised money for Our Military Kids, which provides grants and other support to the children deployed National Guard and Reserve service members, as well as with children of Wounded and Fallen Warriors from all branches of service
Twelve teams from various insurance companies took part in the event, and they even played in the rain to help raise the money. The 300-plus spectators in attendance braved the rain as well for the sake of a good cause.

“Every team came in first place at this year’s softball tournament, where insurance industry professionals still came together despite the rain to support a cause so dear to our hearts,” Betsy Myatt, the Executive Director for the IICF’s Northeast Division, said in a press release promoting the tournament. “The children receiving the grants from this event have parents courageously serving our country, and it is important they know that they too, are our heroes.”
Our Military Kids is headquartered at 6861 Elm Street in McLean. For more information about the organization, visit their website here.
