Special Election Tuesday for Virginia's 48th House of Delegates District

The recent resignation of Del. Bob Brink (48th) means a Special Election will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 19 for residents of that House of Delegates district only. The voter registration deadline was Aug. 12. You can check your voter registration status here.

On the ballot: Republican Dave Foster and Democrat Richard “Rip” Sullivan.

New photo ID requirements will NOT be effective for the Aug. 19, 2014 Special Election, according to the Fairfax County elections office. Acceptable forms of ID are:

• Virginia voter registration card
• Social security card
• Valid Virginia driver’s license or DMV ID card
• Virginia concealed handgun permit
• Any identification card issued by Virginia government, any of its political subdivisions, or the federal government
• A valid student ID card issued by a Virginia institution of higher learning
• An employer ID with a photograph
• A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck showing the name and address of the voter.

The 48th District stretches across Arlington and Fairfax counties, with 69 percent of the district in Arlington County and 31 percent in Fairfax County. The Arlington County elections office tweeted out on Saturday that 1,000 absentee votes were already cast in the election.
