Speeding And Alcohol Caused Fatal Great Falls Crash: Police

Police say speeding and alcohol led to a September 2017 crash that killed two people in Great Falls.

GREAT FALLS, VA—Police have determined that speed and alcohol contributed to the fatal crash in Great Falls back in September 2017.

The driver, Benjamin Wenger, 26, of Annandale and a passenger, 23-year-old Abigail Ryan, of Great Falls, were pronounced on scene of the Sept. 16, 2017 crash. Another passenger, a 15-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened in the 10500 block of Beach Mill Road near Springvale Road. Police say the car was heading west on Beach Mill Road when it veered off the road in the northbound direction, then crossed back over heading south before striking a tree.

Patch had previously reached out to Fairfax County Police for an update on the case. The cause of the crash was under investigation pending results of the toxicology report. Detectives have released the information after notifying the family.
