UPDATE: Storm Knocks Out Power to Hundreds in Great Falls, McLean

Thunderstorms rolled through DC metro area Saturday evening.

Hundreds of homes in the Great Falls and McLean area were without power Saturday night after a powerful thunderstorm rumbled through the DC metro area.

The areas hit were:

  • 245 homes along Kirby Road near Old Dominion Drive in McLean.
  • Old Dominion Drive and Spring Hill Road; as of about 9:15 p.m., there were 185 homes without power; earlier, the number was 296.
  • An earlier outage Saturday night along Beach Mill Road in Great Falls was restored.
  • Another hard-hit area in Great Falls is on Walker Road, between Beach Mill and Georgetown Pike, where nearly 400 homes were without power, and many still without power as of about 3 a.m. Sunday.

In Lorton, more than 1,000 homes were without power Saturday night. Dominion restored power there Saturday night. In all more than 2,000 homes were without power in the county, with Lorton and the Great Falls area the hardest hit. Other hard hit areas in the county were Chantilly with more than 100 homes without power and an area just outside the City of Fairfax, where 139 homes were without power.

After the stormy night Saturday temperatures are expected to cool off Sunday with highs of about 81 degrees.
