Storm Suspends McLean vs. South County Regional Baseball Game

Teams to resume play at 1 p.m. Saturday

The pitching match-up that had much of the Virginia Class AAA Northern Region talking over the last few days – McLean’s Josh Sborz vs. undefeated South County was suspended Friday night after lightning and rain interrupted the game in the bottom of the first inning with South County ahead 4-0.

Sborz, a junior righty who plans to play college baseball for the University of Virginia, gave up a three-run homer to South County shortstop Luke Bondurant and a solo shot to the Stallions’ starting pitcher Tyler Frazier.

The game was called with two outs and Cameron Thompson in the batter’s box for South County. It will be picked up from that point at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 28.

Frazier faced four batters in the McLean half of the first, striking out Bruce Beatty and Ethan Gaba and getting a groundout from James Oldenburg.

The winner of the game will advance to the regional quarterfinals on Monday, May 30 at Lake Braddock.
