Power restored to all but two homes by Friday afternoon.

More than 1,200 homes were without power Friday morning after a tree fell on a power line, according to Dominion Power.

“I wouldn’t be surprised, with all the rain we’ve been having,” Penn said. It’s been raining all week in Northern Virginia.

Moist ground can sometimes uproot trees, depending on factors such as tree and soil type and surrounding vegetation, experts say.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m., Fairfax County police and fire officials told WUSA-9.
