Tutoring Club of McLean Donates 600 Books to After-School Programs

The club donated the books to affordable housing developer AHC, which runs after-school programs at its six community centers in Arlington.

One McLean-based tutoring service recently “spread the word” in the most literal sense.

Tutoring Club of McLean collected and donated more than 600 books to AHC Inc. of Arlington, Virginia, to help improve AHC’s after-school and summer academic programs for elementary and teenaged low-income students.

By day, AHC is one of the Washington, D.C., metro area’s largest developers of affordable housing. But the company also provides after-school and summer programs at its six community centers throughout Arlington in an effort to promote literacy, develop reading, writing and vocabulary skills, and close the achievement gap in our schools.

“I am grateful to the families and friends who donated books to help share the love of reading with children who may not have access to books,” Michelle Scott, owner and director of Tutoring Club of McLean, said in a recent news release. “I know that these books will be well-loved by the children who receive them. ”

Tutoring Club of McLean was named 2015’s “Best Tutor” by readers of Washington Family Magazine and Northern Virginia Magazine. It offers academic services for students from pre-kindergarten to adult, offering individualized tutoring in a wide array of subjects.
