Virginia Election: Northam Destroys Gillespie In McLean

MCLEAN, VA—On Tuesday night, Northam and the Democratic Party swept all three statewide positions in a massive victory one year after the surprise election of President Donald Trump. Northam won with 53.87 percent of the vote, a nearly 10-point lead over Republican Ed Gillespie. The victory was made possible by his performance in Northern Virginia, including in McLean.

It wasn't a matter of who voters were going to choose for governor but rather by how much. McLean area precincts overwhelmingly choose Northam. Some of the top McLean precincts for Northam were: 70.64 percent in Kirby, 69.53 in Westhampton 69.45 in Longfellow, 69.27 in Haycock, 68.79 in Pimmit and 68.30 in El Nido.

Northam led Gillespie overall in Fairfax County by 36 points. Northam won the county by a higher margin than Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who had a 22-point lead in 2013.
