Virginia House Resolution Introduced To Commend Persian Restaurant In Tysons

Virginia house resolution recognizes a Tysons restaurant for its RAMMYS finalist nod and national restaurant honors.

TYSONS, VA — A Virginia lawmaker has introduced a House resolution commending Joon, the upscale Persian restaurant in Tysons, for its recent recognition in the Washington-area dining scene and beyond.

House Resolution 2113, offered Tuesday by Del. Atoosa Reaser (D-Loudoun), recognizes Joon after the restaurant was selected as a 2026 RAMMYS Awards finalist by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington. The resolution notes that the RAMMYS Awards honor exceptional members of the Washington, D.C., area food service industry.

Joon was named a finalist in the Upscale Casual Restaurant of the Year category. The resolution describes the restaurant as being known for blending authentic Persian flavors with modern techniques and culinary artistry, while also citing its “high standards of dining excellence” and service to the community in and around Tysons Corner.

Recognized In Richmond

The resolution also points to Joon’s broader recognition, including being selected as one of the Best Restaurants in Virginia by readers of Washingtonian magazine and being featured on The New York Times’ Top 50 Favorite Restaurants list.

Reza Farahani, Joon’s founder and co-owner, said the recognition from the General Assembly carries a meaning beyond the restaurant’s culinary accolades.

“To have the Virginia House of Delegates formally commend Joon is one of the most meaningful recognitions we've received,” Farahani said. “The Rammy nomination, the Washingtonian readers’ vote as the ‘Best Restaurant in VA’, the New York Times top 50 list — those milestones validated our food and our vision. But a resolution from the General Assembly validates something bigger: that Persian cuisine and culture have a permanent place at the table in the Commonwealth.”

Farahani credited Joon’s executive chef and co-owner for helping shape the restaurant’s identity.

“That's a testament to our executive chef and co-owner Najmieh Batmanglij — a James Beard Award semifinalist and the person the Washington Post has called ‘the grande dame of Iranian cooking,’” Farahani said. “Najmieh has spent a lifetime preserving and elevating Iranian culinary traditions, and this honor belongs to her and to every member of our team who pours their heart into this restaurant every day. We're proud to represent Tysons Corner and Northern Virginia on this stage.”

Joon, located at 8045 Leesburg Pike, Suite 120, has previously been featured by Patch for events highlighting Persian food and culture.

In April, the restaurant partnered with Roads & Kingdoms to host a “Solidarity Supper” benefiting Children of Persia humanitarian relief efforts. The dinner featured a family-style meal and a discussion on life in Iran, with featured speakers including Washington Post Global Opinions writer Jason Rezaian, Roads & Kingdoms co-founder Nathan Thornburgh and Batmanglij.

Patch also reported in December that Joon celebrated Yalda, the Persian tradition tied to the winter solstice, with a special three-course menu at its Tysons Corner location.

The House resolution says the Clerk of the House of Delegates should prepare a copy of the resolution for presentation to Joon as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the restaurant’s contributions to Northern Virginia’s dining scene.
