Virginia's Coronavirus Positive Rate Reaches New Low: Northam
With the start of phase three still uncertain for Virginia, the percent positive rate and current hospitalization numbers are improving.
VIRGINIA — Gov. Ralph Northam said Monday Virginia has reached a new low in the positive rate of coronavirus tests — 6.5 percent. All of Virginia remains in phase two of Northam's reopening plan as officials monitor increases in new infections in other states. The governor has not confirmed a start date for phase three but released guidelines last week.
On Monday, the Virginia Department of Health reported 471 additional cases and nine deaths statewide, bringing the cumulative totals to 58,465 cases and 1,620 deaths. The governor noted Monday's new cases and deaths were significantly lower than daily numbers seen in late May.
The 6.5 percent positive rate is a 7-day moving average based on June 18 testing data. At a peak, the statewide percent positive average was just over 20 percent on April 20.

The positive rates in Northern Virginia health districts are:
- Alexandria: 5.7 percent
- Arlington : 5.3 percent
- Fairfax: 7.1 percent
- Loudoun: 7.7 percent
- Prince William: 10.2 percent
There have been 555,607 nasal swab (polymerase chain reaction or PCR) tests conducted in Virginia, an increase of 12,421 since Sunday. Testing locations are identified on a searchable map provided by VDH.

Cumulative hospitalizations total 5,869, but the number of current patients has been declining in June. According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, there are 848 COVID-19 patients, compared to 902 patients last Monday. There have been 7,663 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals.
Ventilator and intensive care unit bed uses have generally declined in June with small daily fluctuations. As of Monday, 132 COVID-19 patients are on ventilators and 240 are in the ICU statewide.
No hospitals have reported difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment since May 2, with the exception of two hospitals on June 10.

- Arlington County: 2,424 cases, 412 hospitalizations, 126 deaths; increase of six cases
- Fairfax County: 13,499 cases, 1,563 hospitalizations, 438 deaths; increase of 80 cases, eight hospitalizations and three deaths
- Fairfax City: 68 cases, seven hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of one death
- Falls Church: 59 cases, 11 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no change
- Loudoun County: 3,612 cases, 255 hospitalizations, 84 deaths; increase of 27 cases, seven hospitalizations and one death
- Manassas: 1,366 cases, 90 hospitalizations 16 deaths; increase of three cases and one hospitalization
- Manassas Park: 414 cases, 44 hospitalizations, five deaths; increase of four cases
- Prince William County: 6,904 cases, 629 hospitalizations, 133 deaths; increase of 25 cases
- Fredericksburg: 232 cases, 25 hospitalizations, no deaths; increase of five cases
- Spotsylvania County: 909 cases, 61 hospitalizations, 21 deaths; increase of seven cases and one death
