Wheat's Landscape Volunteers to Move a Piece of McLean History
Wheat's Landscape donates equipment and expertise to move an antique Toll Booth in Mclean, VA
On a cool crisp morning in November Wheat’s staff are ready to move an antique toll booth which had been donated by the Fitzgerald family to Claude Moore Colonial Farm in McLean Va. This volunteer project has been in the planning for the past few months. The small toll booth once collected tolls along Georgetown Pike in the early 1900’s and had been relocated to private property many years ago to save it from destruction. Over time the structure had been compromised by insects and moisture resulting in rot leaving the structure week and unstable. Prior to moving the structure, Wheat’s designed and built a structural crib under the toll booth to support it during the lift and move. With a help of a 50 Ton Crane we slowly picked the toll booth up off its foundation and gently set it down on a trailer for transportation. After a short trip down Georgetown Pike the toll booth arrived at Claude Moore Colonial Farm where it will go through a total restoration and eventually put on display for visitors. Wheat’s would like to thank the Fitzgerald family for their generosity. We are proud to be able to support our community saving a little piece of history for future generations.
