The decision, made in cooperation with the school divisions in the Peninsula District (Newport News Public Schools and Hampton City Schools), comes amid the increasing COVID-19 cases and positivity rates on the Peninsula and the risks associated with increased contact through practices and competitions.

The cancellation of winter sports does not impact the planning for the adjusted fall and spring sports schedules:

  • Season 2 (Fall), February 4 - May 1 (First Scheduled Contest Date - March 1)
Competition Cheerleading, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Golf and Volleyball

  • Season 3 (Spring), April 12 - June 26 (First Scheduled Contest Date - April 26)
Baseball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track and Field

The NNPS Leadership Team will continue to monitor regional and local COVID-19 metrics as planning continues for the fall and spring sports seasons.
