Daily Baseball Update: 8/30

Sorry I haven't posted in a few weeks.  I didn't have access to a computer in France.

Historical Individual Seasons: Ed Delahanty 1895
Stat Line: 11 HR, 106 RBI, .404 AVG, 46 SB.  Age 27.
Ed Delahanty may be the greatest player you've never heard of.  He held a .346 career average, playing from 1888-1903 for the Philadelphia Phillies (1888-1889, 1891-1901), Cleveland Infants (1890), and Washington Senators (1902-1903) before falling over Niagara Falls and dying in 1903.  He hit 101 home runs, all in the Dead Ball Era, stole 455 bases, and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1945.  The best year of his career came in 1895, when he hit 11 home runs and batted .404 in just 116 games.  He stole 46 bases and scored 149 runs.  His offense led Philadelphia to a 78-53 record, a .595 winning percentage that was good for third in the twelve team National League, nine and a half games behind the Baltimore Orioles (not connected to today's Orioles).  Delahanty led the majors in doubles (49), on base percentage (.500), and OPS (1.117) while also finishing second in batting average behind Jesse Burkett's (.409).
