  • Online registration for the county-wide lottery for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)  dual language immersion (DLI) programs will open on Monday, January 24. Current prekindergarten students may apply for the kindergarten immersion program and current kindergarten students may apply for the first-grade immersion programs for the 2022-23 school year.

The kindergarten DLI programs are available in Korean and Spanish. Korean is available at Powell Elementary and Spanish is available at Bailey’s Primary, Fort Hunt, Lake Anne, Laurel Ridge, London Towne, and Rose Hill Elementary Schools. First grade DLI programs are available at 12 elementary schools and are offered in French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

In the DLI program, students spend approximately half of each day learning in English and a partner language. Mathematics, science, and health, as well as a portion of language arts, are taught in the partner language, while social studies, English language arts, and the family life education portion of health are taught in English.

There are no formal criteria for enrollment, but the program is only open to residents of Fairfax County. Online registration is available at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/dual-language-immersion-programs-registration.

A SIS parent account is required to complete the application. If a student is not currently enrolled in FCPS, registration at the base school for the upcoming school year will be required to obtain a SIS parent account.

Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, for the first grade DLI program and by 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, for the kindergarten DLI program. Families will be notified regarding lottery outcomes via email on February 28 for the first-grade immersion programs and on March 16, for the kindergarten program. Transportation will not be provided for students residing outside the immersion school’s attendance area.

On May 25, 2017, the Fairfax County School Board approved a one-time, non-refundable pupil placement fee of $100 per student (Notice 5922, Section XVII). This one-time, non-refundable fee will apply to all students accessing DLI program placements outside of their base school and will be integrated and collected within the online final school selection and acceptance process.

Parents who are interested in the DLI programs in FCPS are encouraged to attend one of the following informational meetings.  All meetings are held in accordance with FCPS health guidance. Information regarding virtual meeting access (if needed) will be made available on the Dual Language Immersion registration site by the day of the meeting at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/dual-language-immersion-programs-registration
