About FCPS
Fairfax County Public Schools is one of the largest school divisions in the U.S. with 199 schools and centers. We serve a diverse student population of more than 183,000 students in grades prekindergarten through 12, speaking over 200 languages.

Substitutes are important to the success of the total school program and are expected to perform in place of the regularly scheduled employee as directed by the school administrator. Substitutes are expected to support the FCPS mission to inspire, enable, and empower students to meet high academic standards, lead ethical lives and demonstrate responsible citizenship. Duties may include a variety of paraprofessional curriculum and instructional tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in a general or special education classroom or learning environment and assisting with the daily management of the students and classroom.
Substitutes are important to the success of the total school program and are expected to perform in place of the regularly scheduled employee as directed by the school administrator. Substitutes carry out all duties assigned to facilitate the instructional process and to provide for a safe, educationally productive environment in the classroom, the school, or the workplace. Substitutes are expected to support the FCPS mission to inspire, enable, and empower students to meet high academic standards, lead ethical lives and demonstrate responsible citizenship. Duties may include the planning, delivery, and assessment of instruction, communication, human relations, safety, and management of a classroom or assigned instructional setting.
