Firework Stands Open
Just in time for the Fourth of July, stands have opened to sell sparklers and more.
If you're looking to buy fireworks nearby, you're in luck. The firework stand in the Oakton Shopping Center has been open for business for the Fourth of July season.
Since July 4 falls on a Wednesday, this weekend is the time to buy fireworks ahead of any celebrations this weekend.
Buying Fireworks

From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. this week, residents can purchase TNT 500 grand screamers, Thunder Busters and other assorted fireworks. Kid-friendly fireworks are also available for purchase.
Prices range anywhere from $1 to $170 and all fireworks are currently buy one, get one free at both stands. The deal changes to buy one, get two free after July 4.

The firework stands will be open in Oakton until July 8.
Fairfax County Rules about Fireworks
According to the Fairfax County Fire Marshal's website, "unless expressly approved by the County Fire Marshal in the form of a Fire Prevention Code Permit (FPCP), the exploding, igniting, and use of fireworks is strictly prohibited in Fairfax County and the towns of Clifton, Herndon, and Vienna. However, the supervised use of permissible fireworks on private property with the consent of the owner of such property is allowed, and a permit is not required.
However, the Fairfax County Fire Prevention Code lists the following fireworks as permissable under Section 3303 - Definitions: Any sparklers, fountains, Pharaoh's serpents, caps for pistols, or pinwheels commonly known as whirligigs or spinning jennies. Permissible fireworks should not be used or ignited inside, under or within 50 feet from any structure.
Fairfax County offers the following fireworks safety tips:
- Follow the manufacturer directions.
- Have water available for extinguishment of discarded fireworks or an emergency.
- Place legally purchased fireworks on a flat surface, clear of combustible materials and clear of all buildings.
- Light only one firework at a time.
- Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
- Keep bystanders at least 25 feet away from fireworks.
- Do not permit young children to handle or light fireworks.
(Sparklers can reach a temperature of 1800 degrees Fahrenheit.) - Store fireworks in a cool, dry place.
