Flint Hill Robotics Places 2nd in International Competition
This is the second consecutive year the team has placed in the top 5 in a crowded field of colleges, universities and high schools
For the second consecutive year, Flint Hill's Robotics program placed second in the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (AUVSI SUAS) competition, in a field that consisted of 71 universities and 4 high schools, including Cornell, Harvard, Purdue, Stanford, Thomas Jefferson High School, and the United States Naval Academy.
With the winning team being from Canada, Flint Hill consequently placed first among the U.S. competitors. The objectives of this year's competition had changed significantly, and the team worked hard throughout the academic year to design and build both a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) and UGV (unmanned ground vehicle) to achieve the objectives. Only 47 of the original teams were eligible to fly after submitting a 15-page engineering journal and a 15-minute Flight Readiness Review. The team, led by Devin Host '20, was awarded $5,700 in prize money for their outstanding performance. Congratulations to Devin Host '20, Grant Host '22, Owen Krause '20, Amrith Kumaar '20, Sebastian Lu '21, Thomas Norberg '19, Zach Pabis '20, Shiv Sharma '20, Ben Spivy '20, Charles Stuart '19, Jacob Trent '19, Anton Tyapkin '19, and Ethan Wood '19.
