(Oakton, Va., October 29, 2013) In the state of Virginia, an estimated 200 children enter into the foster care system every month in need of a temporary home. Currently, there is a high need for parents who are willing to welcome foster teens into their home. With this need in mind, NVFS is recruiting adults from every community in Northern Virginia to participate in its next foster parent training, November 16, 23, and December 7, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at NVFS Oakton office, 10455 White Granite Drive, Suite 100, Oakton, Virginia 22124. Coffee and a light lunch will be provided.
The training is the first step in becoming a certified foster parent, and is also required for families interested in providing short-term weekend foster care. Trainees will learn about the foster care system, how to prepare your family for fostering, and how NVFS supports foster parents. Former foster youth and current foster families will share their experience and advice. Families must complete a home study, and foster parents must be at least 21 years old.
