Oakton, Madison Students Named Semifinalists for National Merit Scholarships

The semifinalists were chosen based on their PSAT scores.

Two hundred Fairfax County students, including some from Oakton-area schools, have been named semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

All semifinalists are eligible to compete for 8,000 National Merit Scholarship awards worth $35 million, to be awarded in spring 2014, according to a press release from Fairfax County Public Schools.

The semifinalists from Oakton-area high schools:

Oakton High School: Paul Burke, Monica Hanratty, Taseen Haque, Ankit Jain, Shinar Jain, Ian Johnson, Hannah Kang, Victoria Marquis, Ajay Mehta, Aditya Narayan, Hayes Parker-Kepchar, Rhea Singh, Christopher Suh, Grace Wagner, and Evelyn Wang.

Madison High School: Nicholas Brady, Kelly Briggs, Matthew Cohen, Timothy Davison, Dominick Giovanniello, Kelsey Reardon, Ethan Rogers, Prateesh Sharma, and Timothy Sheridan.

The nationwide pool of semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state in the PSAT.
