Nature can be viewed as a system consisting of living and non-living components, and a set of interactions among those components. Those interactions include checks and balances that keep the system on an even keel. When we remove some of these parts or add others the system keeps running, but may not be under control and may take us to a place that is not good for us or the planet.
Presenter: Jim McGlone has a PhD in Human Ecology (aka Economics) from Virginia Tech and a Master’s Certificate in Environmental Law and Policy from the USDA Graduate School. A self-taught naturalist and ecologist, he has managed the natural resources of a 500 acre park in Fairfax County and is currently an Urban Forest Conservationist with the Virginia Department of Forestry in Northern Virginia. He and his wife have been practicing conservation landscaping for the past 10 years.
