Daily Coronavirus Case Count at 2-Month Low In Virginia

VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 580 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the lowest statewide total since 354 cases on July 6. The seven-day average of cases is 890, compared to 1,010 a week ago on Sept. 16. The cumulative total of cases is 142,590, while deaths stand at 3,089 and hospitalizations at 10,718.

Two regions had new cases below 100, which is lower than their seven-day averages. Wednesday's cases included 157 in northern Virginia, 146 in the southwest, 115 in the eastern region, 89 in the central region, 73 in the northwest.

With a 5.5 percent positive average of PCR tests statewide as of Sept. 18, Virginia is approaching the 5 percent rate recommended by the World Health Organization for governments to allow reopening. There have been 1,922,606 PCR tests completed in Virginia, up 11,026 from Tuesday.

Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations stand at 916, the lowest number since 902 on July 7. The breakdown of hospitalizations by region is 256 in the central region, 241 in the eastern region, 194 in the northern region, 142 in the southwest region, 83 in the northwest. There have been 17,038 total COVID-19 patients discharged from Virginia hospitals to date, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.

Current hospitalizations include 113 COVID-19 patients on ventilators and 215 in the intensive care units. Ventilator use is at 21 percent among all hospital patients, and ICU occupancy is at 80 percent. Virginia's 2019 average for ICU occupancy was 67 percent. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.

• Alexandria: 3,741 cases, 314 hospitalizations, 68 deaths; increase of 14 cases
• Arlington County: 3,877 cases, 497 hospitalizations, 148 deaths; increase of 22 cases and three hospitalizations
• Fairfax County: 20,437 cases, 2,147 hospitalizations, 583 deaths; increase of 64 cases and four hospitalizations
• Fairfax City: 135 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no changes
• Falls Church: 69 cases, 12 hospitalizations, six deaths; increase of one case
• Loudoun County: 6,720 cases, 428 hospitalizations, 123 deaths; increase of 22 cases
• Manassas: 1,904 cases, 128 hospitalizations, 25 deaths; increase of two cases
• Manassas Park: 607 cases, 54 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of one case
• Prince William County: 12,215 cases, 902 hospitalizations, 201 deaths; increase of 32 cases and one hospitalization
• Fredericksburg: 531 cases, 49 hospitalizations, five deaths; two cases and one death removed
• Spotsylvania County: 2,106 cases, 132 hospitalizations, 43 deaths; increase of seven cases and one death
• Stafford County: 1,971 cases, 155 hospitalizations, 17 deaths; increase of eight cases, one hospitalization and three deaths
