Deserving Mom With Multiple Sclerosis To Get Free Makeover

A mother that's been battling multiple sclerosis will get a free makeover and more from Old Town Alexandria dentists and local partners.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—An Old Town Alexandria dental office is about to give a mother battling multiple sclerosis a reason to smile. Dorothy "DJ" Rockow will receive a free dental makeover from Drs. Seema Ahmed and Kim Kitchen at Old Town Smiles.

She was selected from a number of mothers entered into the dental office's contest.

"No matter how bad she feels or how much she's hurting she never fails to put everyone else before herself," said her daughter, Emi Potter-Rockow, who entered her in the contest. DJ Rockow will undergo the makeover after completing a consultation. The prize includes a trip to a salon, a massage, flowers, a dinner out and photos. Old Town Smiles is partnering with community businesses to capture DJ's transformation. Sponsors include Windsor of Old Town Salon and Spa, Alexandria Myotherapy, Enchanted Florist, Landini Brothers Restaurant and A.W. Davis Photography. Submissions were open through mid May.

“These makeovers are life changing for our patients. Once they are confident with their smile we have seen them become motivated to seek employment, reconnect with loved ones, and live an overall better life," said Kitchen.

The dentists have done the makeovers for individuals nominated by staff, patients and local organizations for over 10 years. This year, Old Town Smiles opened up a contest to give a free dental makeover to a deserving member of the community. In the last two years, they have also given makeovers to a grocery store employee, an artist, a handyman and a woman recently released from prison that served time for a non-violent offense.

“Each of these special people touched us in a way that inspired us to help give them an incredible smile and a
new approach to life,” said Ahmed.

Patch will share photos of DJ's special day and transformation once they've happened.
