Freight Train Derailment In Alexandria: NTSB Investigates Cause
BREAKING: 30 freight train cars derailed Saturday morning in Alexandria. No one was injured.
ALEXANDRIA, VA—The City of Alexandria remains on scene of a freight train that derailed Saturday morning in the Eisenhower corridor of Alexandria.
About 31 freight cars of the CSX train came off the tracks around 7 a.m. near Floyd Street and Wheeler Avenue. No crew members or anyone off the train was injured. The train was not carrying ethanol or other hazardous cargo, and no leaks have been identified at this time. The train was carrying 167 cars and is not a passenger train.
The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the cause of the derailment. First responders arriving at the scene found partial railway bridge collapse happened, but initial investigations show the train derailed prior to the bridge and struck the bridge while derailing.

The investigation and efforts to resolve the derailment continue. There are no current road closures related to this incident. Passenger and freight trains continue to move through the area at slow speed, which may impact Monday commutes.
