ALEXANDRIA, VA — Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams locations in Alexandria and around the country need your help to set a world record — and all you have to do is eat ice cream.

To be included in the count for most people eating ice cream for breakfast, all you have to do is post a picture of you eating ice cream between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday with the hashtag "#IceCreamIsBreakfast." Sales at Jeni's stores will not be counted toward the world record, and the ice cream does not have to be from Jeni's, a representative of the company said.

But if you do want a scoop from Jeni's, the locations in Alexandria and nationwide will open at 9 a.m. The Alexandria shop is located at 102 S. Patrick Street.

Jeni's has celebrated "Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day" for six years now, a representative of the ice cream brand said. Every year, customers line up outside Jeni's stores across the country for an early morning scoop in their pajamas.

With their goals set high, the ice cream team has gone above and beyond this year. The world record attempt has become a youthful, almost cartoonish, celebration of ice cream, a representative of Jeni's said. Things are all turned around anyway, so why not have ice cream for breakfast?

People should enjoy ice cream, the representative said. Saturday's festivities should feel like being a kid again, planted in front of the TV watching cartoons and eating a massive plate of sugary breakfast.

To set this scene, Jeni's released its annual breakfast-themed flavor, "Maple Soaked Pancakes." The limited-release flavor is flying off the shelves, a Jeni's representative said, but there will be plenty to accommodate Saturday's crowd. Last year's flavor, "Everything Bagel," was equally as popular, the company said, and some customers have taken to social media to ask for another appearance of the bagel flavor.
