· Art at the Torpedo Factory
(10 minute drive from The Landing)
Hail a cab or hop in an Uber and head straight to the Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 N. Union St., Alexandria, VA 22314). Here, a historic WWII torpedo factory has been transformed into an arts oasis, “the nation’s largest collection of working-artists’ open studios under one roof,” according to its website. Some 82 working artist studios are accented by galleries, workshops, a museum and more.
· Daingerfield Island
(0.6 mile walk from The Landing)
One of the perks of The Landing’s location is a straight shot to Daingerfield Island, a 106-acre waterfront park operated by the National Park Service on the Potomac River. Located on the site of the first permanent settlement of Alexandria, you can sail, fish, picnic and observe nature or dine at the on-site restaurant.
· The Mount Vernon Trail
(0.8 mile walk from The Landing)
From Daingerfield Island, rent a bike and check out as much of the 18-mile Mount Vernon Trail as you desire. The paved trail runs from George Washington’s estate, Mount Vernon, all the way to Theodore Roosevelt Island.
