National Donut Day: Four Deals Near Alexandria

Every year, the much-anticipated day falls on the first Friday of June. The first Donut Day was celebrated in 1938 to recognize Salvation Army members who served donuts to soldiers in World War I.

The Virginia-based chain is giving away a free donut to customers that wear a Sugar Shack T-shirt. Others can buy one and get a coupon for a free donut beginning on June 3.

Duck Donuts: 3610-F King St, Alexandria, VA 22302

Duck Donuts is giving customers a free donut of their choice with any purchase. In addition, your receipt will also have a "Buy One Get One Free 1/2 Dozen" redeemable until Aug. 31.
