New Plans in the Works for Old Generous George's Spot

Yates Pizza Palace submits plans to renovate building.

The old Generous George’s Positive Pizza & Pasta Palace building on Duke Street in Alexandria could soon be seeing new life. That restaurant closed in 2009 after being in business for 32 years.

Jeffrey Yates, the owner of the building, at 3000 Duke Street, has plans to open a new restaurant and renovate the building, also PHOTOadding rooftop seating and valet parking, according to planning papers submitted to the City for a hearing set for Dec. 2.

The proposed restaurant sounds similar to one planned for Yates Corner.

There would be seating for 387 inside and rooftop seating for 61 for a total of 448 seats. The menu would include pizza, pasta, salads and subs. The restaurant would include take-out and delivery. Owners are proposing live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Valet parking would be added by using five privately owned off-site parking lots including Bishop Ireton High School’s lot across the street.

Here’s some of the description of the plans for the location:

The restaurant will be a full-service pizza-pasta restaurant with three levels of dining, two bar areas offering take-out and delivery service. Plans include a rooftop dining and bar area with outdoor terrace seating. Plans also include live music during peak periods with full compliance of all city noise ordinances. Plans include on-site and off-site customer parking and complimentary valet parking on at least two off-site parking lots. A complete remodeling of both the interior and exterior of the building.
