Paid Parking To Begin On Alexandria Cobblestone Street
Beginning on Friday, parking will no longer be free aside from residents on an Old Town Alexandria cobblestone street.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—If you like parking on the cobblestone area of Prince Street when visiting the Old Town waterfront, now you'll have to pay for it. Starting Friday, July 14, cars will need a District 1 residential parking permit or can pay to park for up to two hours in the block between South Union and Lee Streets.
The city council approved the restriction as part of a pilot program in November 2016. The program seeks to eliminate free two-hour parking spaces on residential blocks to improve parking options for residents. Visitors are encouraged to park in metered or garage spaces. Meters will not be installed on the affected block.

Residents requested the paid parking on this block of Prince Street, and other blocks can request restrictions as well. See eligible blocks below with dotted red lines:

The program is scheduled to go through March 1 when the city will evaluate. The city will compare the block with and without the restrictions to gain insight into applying restrictions to other areas.
