Pedestrian Crossing Improvements Sought Near Eisenhower Avenue Metro
The area near the Eisenhower Avenue Metro, home to the new Carlyle Crossing development, could get an enhanced pedestrian crossing.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — An improved pedestrian crossing near the Eisenhower Avenue Metro is being considered by the city.
The Eisenhower Avenue Metro area has been seeing increased pedestrian activity due to the presence of the Metro station, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, National Science Foundation, and developments, including the new Carlyle Crossing with a Wegmans store and three apartment communities. City Council included an improved crossing in its Eisenhower East Small Area Plan in 2020.
The project area covers Eisenhower Avenue directly next to the Metro station near the side streets of Swamp Fox Road and Grist Mill Road. That area has two crosswalks with traffic lights and pedestrian signals. Funding is available through Federal Transit Administration.

With the project, the city aims to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility of the Metro station with other areas of Eisenhower East. Before the initial project design is created, the city is surveying residents on crossing Eisenhower Avenue at the Metro station. The survey is open through May 8.
The next step will be survey results and design concepts being presented at a community meeting this summer. For future updates, visit the project web page.
