St. Elmo's Coffee Pub Applies For Second Location In Alexandria
The Del Ray coffee shop could be expanding to a new development.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — St. Elmo's Coffee Pub could be getting a second location. The Del Ray coffee shop submitted an application to open at the Gables Old Town North mixed-use development.
The city previously approved a special use permit for the retail space. St. Elmo's applied for a change of ownership but did not request changes to the special use permit. According to the property website, the space is 2,210 square feet. A floor plan submitted to the city includes an outdoor seating area.
The Gables Old Town North development is located at 530 First Street. Residential spaces include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments townhomes. Residents have access to amenities like a rooftop deck, pool with cabanas, outdoor game area, ground-floor retail and more. On the retail side, Oak Steakhouse, Row House and West Elm are among the businesses that have opened.

St. Elmo's Coffee Pub has become a neighborhood fixture in Del Ray since opening in 1996. Original owner Nora Partlow turned the business over to Larry and Christine Ponzi in 2015. With the ownership change came the introduction of sandwiches and salads alongside the coffee shop's baked goods selection. It also holds regular live music and open mic events.
