What's Open, Closed For New Year's In Alexandria
Some services will be closed for the first day of 2019, while others will be closed on New Year's Eve too.

ALEXANDRIA, VAāAs families get another (or continued) break to ring in 2019, services around Alexandria have different hours for the holiday.
City of Alexandria offices will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, while schools, courts and other services will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Some services like transit will be open on New Year's Eve during First Night Alexandria and other events. Services will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2 unless noted.

City Offices: Closed Jan. 1.
Alexandria City Public Schools: Closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2.

State Offices: The Alexandria Circuit Court Clerkās Office, the Alexandria Circuit Court, the Alexandria General District Court, and the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (520 King Street), will be closed on Dec. 31-Jan. 1. The Department of Motor Vehicles office at 2681 Mill Road will be closed on Dec. 31-Jan. 1.
Animal Shelter: The Vola Lawson Animal Shelter will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 with animal viewing beginning at noon. The Animal Shelter will be closed on Jan. 1.
DASH and King Street Trolley: On Dec. 31, DASH will operate regular weekday service on all of its routes, including the King Street Trolley. As part of the First Night Alexandria New Yearās Eve festivities, DASH will also provide limited trolley service between the Durant Center and the George Washington Masonic National Memorial from approximately 5:30p.m.-11 p.m. On Jan. 1, regular DASH bus service will not operate, but the free King Street Trolley will run on its regular schedule every 10-15 minutes from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Emergency Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703-746-5800; the domestic violence hotline at 703-746-4911; the emergency mental health services or substance abuse crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the adult protective services hotline at 1-888-832-3858; and the sexual assault hotline at 703-683-7273.
Health Facilities: The Alexandria Health Department (4480 King Street) and the Flora Krause Casey Health Center (1200 N. Howard Street) will be closed on Dec. 31-Jan. 1. The Teen Wellness Center (3330 King Street) will be open on Dec. 31 and closed on Jan. 1.
Historic sites: All City of Alexandria museums will be closed on Dec. 31 except the Alexandria Archaeology Museum, which will be open from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. All City museums will be closed on Jan. 1. For more information, visit the Office of Historic Alexandria website.
Impound Lot: The Cityās Impound Facility (5249 Eisenhower Avenue) will be closed on Jan. 1.
Libraries: Libraries close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and remain closed on Jan. 1. The Alexandria Law Library (520 King Street) will be closed Dec. 31-Jan. 2.
Metrorail: On Dec. 31, Metro will open at 5 a.m. with special late night service until 2 a.m. on a regular weekday schedule. On Jan. 1, Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule from 8 a.m.-11 p.m., off-peak fares will be in effect and parking will be free at Metro lots and garages. There is no track work scheduled for Dec. 31-Jan. 1. For more information, visit www.wmata.com.
Metrobus: On Dec. 31, Metrobus will operate on a normal schedule. On Jan. 1, Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule. Visit www.wmata.com for more details on specific routes.
Parking: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits on Jan. 1. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces, and does not permit parking in any location normally prohibited (for example, no parking zones, loading zones, or spaces for persons with disabilities). Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced on Jan. 1.
Recreation and Arts Centers: City recreation centers will be closed on Jan. 1.
Trash Pickup: Residential refuse and recycling will be collected on Dec. 31 but not Jan. 1. Collection services normally scheduled for Jan. 1-3 will be delayed one day. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Collections Drop-off Center (3224 Colvin Street) will be closed on Dec. 31.
