2. Petersburg Police will boost patrols, enforcement following violence (progress-index.com) — Petersburg Police are immediately increasing patrols and enforcement in trouble spots after recent murders and a mass shooting near an Old Towne restaurant. Chief Travis Christian says residents will see more officers, stricter curfew enforcement for minors, and closer work with code officials to crack down on noisy, overcrowded or unsafe businesses. 4. 131 abused or neglected children in Central Virginia sit on waiting list for court-appointed special advocate (wtvr.com) — Dozens of abused or neglected children between Richmond and Petersburg are waiting for a court-appointed special advocate because there aren’t enough trained volunteers. Greater Richmond SCAN’s CASA program currently has 65 volunteers serving 93 children, but 131 more still need help. The group hopes to fill a new training class in September and urges caring adults to step up.
