Hopewell VA250 festival June 27 brings music, tours, fireworks (progress-index.com) — Hopewell is throwing a big free VA250 “Hooray for Hopewell History” festival downtown this Saturday, June 27, from noon to 7 p.m., capped by fireworks over the Appomattox River. Families can enjoy kids’ activities, historic tours between downtown and Appomattox Manor, and patriotic specials from local businesses, all celebrating Hopewell’s role in 250 years of American history.
   

2. Troubled Central Virginia nursing homes being sold to new owners, emails show (henricocitizen.com) — If you have loved ones at Wonder City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Hopewell, the low-rated facility is being sold to a new owner as early as next week. It’s one of five troubled Central Virginia nursing homes changing hands, raising questions about future care quality and oversight for vulnerable residents.
   

3. Hopewell father charged in infant's death was ordered to complete anger management months before (wtvr.com) — Hopewell authorities have charged a local father with felony homicide after his 5‑month‑old son was found unresponsive at a Rodeway Inn on June 14 and later died from suspected shaken baby injuries. Court records show the man had a prior assault case with a missed anger‑management requirement, and he’s due back in Hopewell court Thursday on the new charge.
   

4. Federal indictments in prison smuggling using drones (classiccitynews.com) — Hopewell residents should know that federal prosecutors say a large, multi-state drone-smuggling ring allegedly dropped contraband into FCC Petersburg in Hopewell as part of 38 suspected prison deliveries. Twelve people are charged in Georgia with using drones to move drugs, weapons-related items, phones, and tobacco into ten federal prisons nationwide. All defendants remain presumed innocent while the case proceeds.
