Friends and family describe her as a joyful, deeply faithful mother of three whose kindness and planning for others continued even as she prepared for her operation.
   

• Troubled Central Virginia nursing homes being sold to new owners, emails show (henricocitizen.com) — Ownership of Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is expected to change as early as next week, along with four other low-rated Central Virginia facilities. All five homes currently carry poor federal quality ratings or watchlist status, and a new operator, Prestige Healthcare, is set to take over from Medical Facilities of America, raising questions about future care standards for local families.
   

• Constance Leigh Nicholson Smiley (sovanow.com) — Family and friends are mourning 77-year-old Constance “Connie” Smiley, whose son Chad lives in Colonial Heights, after she passed away on June 20. Remembered as a loving mother, excellent cook, and New Hope Baptist Church member, she will be honored at a July 1 graveside service in Oakwood Cemetery.
