Could Reston Score Amazon's Massive 2nd Headquarters?
There's a buzz across the nation as Amazon announces plans to open up a huge second HQ somewhere in America, and Reston could be considered.

RESTON, VA — Amazon is going to make one region in America very happy when it makes its choice for a second headquarters that will house a staggering 50,000 employees across an estimated 33 buildings. Could Reston's reputation as a growing tech hotspot in the suburbs of D.C. help it land such a huge deal? Local officials certainly think so.
Amazon's announcement that they are searching for a place to make a massive expansion into a new market has gotten cities all across the nation plugging their own bona fides to handle the tech giant. D.C., Arlington, and Prince George's County have all made it known that they're interested in hosting Amazon and have the capability to do so. But what about Reston?
Reston certainly fits the bill: Amazon is looking for a city with a strong reputation in the tech world and a population of at least 1 million people -- which works if you count it as part of the D.C. area. The company also wants access to a large and diverse talent pool -- check -- and be close to an international airport -- double check, with Dulles International Airport literally right next door.

"Fairfax County would love to be home to Amazon’s second headquarters. In our community they would find a well-educated, talented and motivated workforce, and an outstanding quality of life," said Sharon Bulova, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, in a statement to FairfaxNews.

Other cities on the short list include Austin, Texas; New York/Newark; Los Angeles; Houston; Dallas; Philadelphia; and Miami.
Working in Fairfax County's favor is the fact that it is already home to the East Coast campus of Amazon Web Services. The county beat off bids in Texas and Washington state for the project, which will bring 1,500 jobs to the area.
We may know soon enough who the lucky locality will be. Amazon will field proposals from state and local leaders until Oct. 19, although there's no word on how soon they'll announce whether they've narrowed down the list.
