Looking for a fun and educational option for your kids this summer? There's still time to register for RFBC's Music Camp, August 3-7. Rising 1st through 5th graders are invited to join us for a week of music and rhythm! We will spend the week preparing for the fall musical “Star Search!”

We offer a weekly meditation class for the Richmond community emphasizing techniques for training the mind to benefit both ourselves and those around us.&nbsp;
In our current series titled Awakening the Mind: A Journey into Buddhist Thought, we will explore essential topics such as impermanence, the workings of karma, the question of meaning, and the nature of consciousness. We will discuss how to use meditation on these topics to find more daily peace, clarity, and harmony with others. Classes are based on the book ‘Modern Buddhism’ by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso and you can download this book for free at <a href="https://www.emodernbuddhism.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">emodernbuddhism.com</a>. 
Each session stands on its own, and is suitable for beginners and experienced meditators alike. These classes offer practical tools you can apply immediately to create more happiness—starting from within.
Everyone is welcome! Our tradition of Buddhism makes no distinctions on the basis of gender, sexuality, race, background, or income. And it doesn't matter if you identify with a different religion. Buddhist teachings can benefit everyone!

Robert Carter Nicholas (1729–1780) was a member of a privileged, elite Virginia family, prominent lawyer, tobacco planter, leading member of the House of Burgesses, treasurer, churchman, and active participant in the political dramas that led to independence. His life allows us to see how men and women of the upper classes lived; how they depended on slavery for their wealth and social status; how they were surrounded by enslaved people almost all of the time; how they brought up and educated their children; how the complex international tobacco economy on which they depended operated; how the institutions of government, such as the legislature and the courts, functioned; and how members of elite families dominated the politics of the time. Tracing the life of this one Virginian illuminates the experiences of other Virginians during two decades of profoundly important challenges and changes, which culminated in the decision of elite leaders like Nicholas—who at first glance appear to have had nothing to gain and much to lose by risking a revolution—to vote for independence from Great Britain in 1776.
Brent Tarter is a founding editor of the Library of Virginia’s Dictionary of Virginia Biography and a cofounder of the annual Virginia Forum. He is the author of numerous books, including The Grandees of Government: The Origins and Persistence of Undemocratic Politics in Virginia; Virginians and Their Histories; Vignettes of Colonial Virginia: Remarkable Stories from the Founding of America; and Virginia’s Forgotten Founder: The World of Robert Carter Nicholas.

What is MHSS? MHSS is a Medicaid community-based program that helps adults with mental health challenges build the skills needed to live independently and maintain emotional and daily stability. Services are provided in the home and in the community by qualified professionals. MHSS supports individuals who need help with managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or PTSD; improving medication consistency; developing coping and emotional regulation skills; strengthening daily living skills such as cleaning, hygiene, nutrition, and routines; and building healthy social connections. MHSS also assists with organization, budgeting, employment readiness, and navigating community resources such as housing and benefits.
