Here are the top stories today in Roanoke:

  1. A tractor-trailer became wedged under a bridge in Roanoke on Thursday afternoon. Both lanes of travel were closed at Shaffer's Crossing from Salem Ave. NW to Johnson Ave. NW. The roadways were closed for about three hours while the situation was cleared up. (WSET)
  2. Roanoke City staff presented long-term plans to City Council on Thursday in an effort to prevent future flooding downtown. The plans would create several projects over the next decade to make long-term upgrades and fix existing systems to prevent flooding. Staff say if these projects aren't completed, the flooding could cost taxpayers millions of dollars in damages over the next several years. (WSLS 10)
  3. Angels of Assisi, an animal protection organization in Roanoke, reunited a cat with its owner after months apart. (WSLS 10)
