• Salem's Forge the Future Inclusion Camp earns statewide award while opening doors for students with special needs (wsls.com) — Salem City Schools’ Forge the Future Inclusion Camp just earned a statewide workforce readiness award while giving local students with special needs paid manufacturing internships. Eight Salem-area students worked at companies like Appalachian Power and Alro Steel, gaining real-world skills and confidence. The month-long program, funded by a SparkForce grant, is the first manufacturing inclusion camp of its kind in Virginia.

• Salem RidgeYaks monitoring air quality as as they open the second half of their season (wsls.com) — If you’re heading to a Salem RidgeYaks game this homestand, team officials are closely tracking air quality from Canadian wildfire smoke to keep players and fans safe. The club monitored Friday’s conditions, offered masks at guest services, and is letting anyone who skipped the opener over air concerns exchange tickets for another home date. They’ll keep adjusting plans as conditions change in Salem.

• Shorebirds top RidgeYaks in 14-11 scoring fest (wsls.com) — A high-scoring night at Carilion Clinic Field saw Salem’s RidgeYaks fall 14–11 to the Delmarva Shorebirds despite a late rally. Franklin Primera and Avinson Pinto powered Salem’s offense, while Louis Andujar’s ninth-inning homer wasn’t enough. The three-game series continues tonight in Salem, with left-hander Ethan Walker slated to start for the home team.
