Salem VA Medical Center to temporarily relocate specialty clinics during renovations (salemtimes-register.com) — Veterans who use the Salem VA Medical Center should know that Cardiology, Rheumatology, Neurology and Infectious Disease clinics will move to Building 7’s second floor starting August 10 during renovations. Staff, signage, valet parking and wheelchairs will still be available to help patients and families find the temporary locations.

Local schools offer free meals, supplies, clothing to ease back-to-school costs (wsls.com) — Families in Salem City Schools can get major back-to-school help this year, including free breakfast and lunch at two schools and access to “The Boutique” for no-cost clothing, shoes, and supplies. The story also outlines how to apply for free or reduced meals if you’re not automatically enrolled and points to similar resources in neighboring Roanoke districts.
   

3. 5. McCroskey, Dornie Eugene (nrvnews.com) — Family and friends are mourning Dornie Eugene “Cracker” McCroskey, 79, who passed away August 5 at LewisGale in Salem, surrounded by loved ones. A longtime Celanese employee who loved sports, the outdoors, and time with his grandchildren, he will be remembered Saturday, August 8, at Kendall Funeral Home, where the family will receive visitors before an evening service.
