• Salem VA Health Care System to Host Quarterly Veteran Town Hall (virginianreview.com) — Local veterans and their families can attend a Salem VA Health Care System town hall on Wednesday, September 2, at 2 p.m. in Building 5 at the Salem VA Medical Center. Leaders from the health system and Roanoke’s Veterans Benefits office will share updates and answer emailed questions about local operations, initiatives, and services.
   

• Wheels of Hope program plans to give away 125 bikes to Salem children (wfxrtv.com) — Salem families can look forward to the new Wheels of Hope program, which will give 125 free bikes and safety gear to students identified by Salem City elementary schools starting in the 2026–27 year. Run by Salem Area Ministries with support from the Salem Lions Club, police, parks and Roanoke College cyclists, the effort also includes bike-safety education for local kids.
   

• Salem police arrest Roanoke County man on multiple charges in assault case (salemtimes-register.com) — Salem police report that a woman sought help at the Salem Public Safety Building after an alleged assault and abduction that began on West Main Street and continued into Roanoke. A Roanoke County man was later arrested with help from Roanoke police, and the investigation into the serious charges remains ongoing.
