Here are the top stories in Roanoke today:
- Though votes were still being counted as of Friday evening, Virginia is anticipated to have a Republican-led House of Delegates. House Minority Leader, Del. Todd Gilbert, says his party plans to "turn back progressive measures and practices overseen by the house in the last two years" under Democratic control. Del. Sam Rasoul is projected to be the lone Democratic member of the House in the Roanoke region and in the entire western half of the state. (10 News)
- A Roanoke teenager was arrested this week for a shooting that took place over Halloween weekend. Adul-Aziz Yasin, 18, was charged with malicious wounding and larceny of a firearm from person. Police responded to reports of a gunshot wound in the 500 block of 8th Street NW on Saturday night. The victim was found at a nearby intersection and taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. (WDBJ 7)
- The annual Virginia's Veterans Parade will be marching down Jefferson Street and Campbell Avenue in Downtown Roanoke today at 11 a.m. (10 News)
- With an anticipated 10,000-plus doses headed to Roanoke, Virginia health officials say there is "more than enough" of the pediatric COVID vaccine for local children, and Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital recommends that parents find vaccine locations for their 5 to 11-year-old children through the Virginia Department of Health's website. - The Gun Violence Prevention Commission (GVPC) will hold a public hearing in person on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. at the Berglund Center Performing Arts Theatre, located at 710 Williamson Rd. NE in Roanoke. (Roanoke Patch)
