Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke:
- Saint Francis Service Dogs is hosting its annual Barks and Rec fundraiser to raise money for training service dogs in Roanoke. The organization is almost to its $60,000 goal but needs the community's help to push it over the finish line. - Roanoke Fire-EMS reports that nobody was injured during the Greenbrier Avenue commercial fire. The department estimates the fire damage to be about $8,000 at the location in the 2000 block of Greenbrier Avenue. The cause of the fire was reportedly accidental in nature. (WDBJ)
- The Peacemakers organization is hosting a job fair on Apr. 16 at 2502 Melrose Avenue NW. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is meant to curb Roanoke's recent crime increase. The fair hopes to help those with a criminal record find employment, according to the organization's founder Shaw Hunter. (WSLS 10)
