The Harry and Lavon Webb Education Center Presents Indian Folk Dance Workshop‍ With Katrina Ji of Ra

Rajasthani Caravan is a traditional folk music ensemble dedicated to the living musical heritage of Rajasthan, India. Rooted in the centuries-old Manganiyar tradition, the ensemble presents devotional and celebratory music passed down through generations of hereditary musicians from the Thar Desert region of western Rajasthan.
The ensemble brings together master musicians and cultural educators to share this rich tradition with audiences across the United States. Vocalist Dare Khan brings the soulful melodic heart of Manganiyar singing to the stage, while Kode Khan's kamayacha - a bowed string instrument central to Rajasthani folk music - adds deep, resonant texture. Jasu Khan anchors the group with traditional dholak and percussion, and Artistic Director Katrina Ji weaves dance and cultural storytelling into each performance.

JC Social Club is Jefferson Center's own signature dance party experience, born from a desire to transform Roanoke's beloved Fitzpatrick Hall into something unexpected: a full-on celebration. This is not a touring show or a ticketed concert in the traditional sense. It is a Jefferson Center original production, crafted to bring the community together for an electrifying night of music, movement, and connection.
At the heart of JC Social Club is the belief that great spaces deserve great parties. With a live DJ spinning across genres, a dazzling light show, and a full bar, the event turns one of the region's finest performance venues into a vibrant, inclusive dance floor. Adding a hands-on dimension, local favorites Dave and Donna Spangler, known as the Dancing Duo, lead guests in swing and line dance instruction. Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya is one of the most celebrated and innovative musicians in the world, widely regarded as the greatest slide guitarist of his generation. Born into a family of musicians in Kolkata, he began performing publicly at the age of three and has since logged more than 3,000 live performances across six decades. A true pioneer, he designed and patented four custom guitars, the Chaturangui, Ghandharvi, Anandi, and Pushpa Veena, each built to carry the full weight and nuance of Hindustani classical raga.
His 29 albums, two Grammy nominations, 2022 World Music Hall of Fame induction, and collaborations with legends including Ustad Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Jerry Douglas, and Derek Trucks place him in rare company. His latest album, "Legacy," features his family in a tribute to pioneering Hindustani classical artists. Fincastle UMC Family Life Center

The Botetourt County Historical Society, Inc. invites the public to a special program celebrating the rich history and lasting impact of 4-H in Botetourt County on Thursday, October 8, as part of National 4-H Week.
The evening will feature Glenda Snyder, who served as Botetourt County's 4-H Extension Agent from the 1980s through the 2000s. During her years with Virginia Cooperative Extension, Snyder worked with thousands of young people, helping them develop leadership skills, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for agriculture, community service, and personal growth.
Joining Snyder will be several former Botetourt 4-H members who will share personal stories and reflect on how their experiences in 4-H influenced their lives. Together, they will offer a look back at the traditions, friendships, projects, and opportunities that have made 4-H an important part of life in Botetourt County for generations.
The program complements the Historical Society's current exhibit, Home Grown: Botetourt’s Agricultural History, which explores Botetourt County's agricultural heritage and the people whose hard work and dedication have shaped the community. As one of the nation's oldest youth development organizations, 4-H has long played a vital role in teaching practical skills, encouraging civic engagement, and preparing young people to become future leaders. This program highlights the important connection between agriculture, education, and community that continues to define Botetourt County today.
Whether you are a former 4-H member, volunteer, parent, or simply interested in local history, this program offers an opportunity to reminisce, learn, and celebrate an organization that has impacted countless lives.
The program will be held on Thursday, October 8, at the Fincastle United Methodist Family Life Center, located at 137 S. Church Street in Fincastle. The program begins at 7:00pm. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome!

Jstop Latin Soul is a Roanoke, Virginia-based Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble formed in 2018. Led by trombonist Joel Stopka and bassist/guitarist Brian Mesko, the group delivers a fiery, authentic blend of Afro-Cuban jazz, rumba, salsa, and cha-cha rooted in both technical mastery and genuine passion for Latin musical traditions.
The ensemble's rich sound is anchored by Latin percussionists Vladimir Espinosa and David Sandoval, drummer DeWayne Peters, and pianist "Montuno Tom" Floyd. Recording artist Bobby Read contributes vibrant tenor and soprano saxophone, Jamiel Allen brings sultry synth and organ textures, and Willis Greenstreet rounds out the group with inventive guitar work.
Big Lick Latin Underground (BLLU) is a Roanoke Valley organization committed to building a welcoming Latin dance community through events that emphasize safety, inclusivity, and collaboration.
