Here are the top stories today in Roanoke:
- Starting in 2022, those shopping in the City of Roanoke will have to pay a plastic bag tax.
The tax will cost shoppers five cents for every plastic bag used, mainly affecting drug stores, grocery stores, and convenience stores. The money from the tax will be used for environmental clean-up in the city and promote educational programs to reduce waste. The goal is for shoppers to bring their own bags when shopping. (WSLS 10) - It has been confirmed that the body of the woman found Monday on Brush Mountain Road was Kayla Nicole Sumner, 28, of Roanoke. Her parents are searching for answers in light of the suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. Police are investigating leads, and anyone with information is asked to call the Roanoke County Police Department. (WDBJ7)
- City of Roanoke leaders held a community forum and public hearing to address gun violence in the community this past Tuesday. (WSET)
