Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke:

  1. A man is recovering at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after being found in a vehicle with a non-critical gunshot wound. Officers found the man in the 900 block of Crescent Street NW on Saturday night after receiving reports that a man with a gunshot wound was seen in the area. The department has reportedly not yet found a suspect. (WDBJ)
  2. On Saturday, Mill Mountain Zoo held a "Party for the Planet" to celebrate Earth Day. The event featured activities, information, and local sculptures made out of recycled material. Students from William Fleming High School were also promoting the Share the Air campaign meant to ban tobacco at parks and recreational spaces. (WDBJ)
  3. The Melrose Branch Library held a panel discussion about the need for more foster parents in the Roanoke region. The panel consisted of foster parents, a local pastor who spent time in the foster system growing up, and the nonprofit DePaul Community Resources. According to a report by the Virginia Department of Social Services, 355 children in the Roanoke area are in foster care. (Roanoke Times)
