Here are the top stories today in Roanoke:
- Roanoke Police took two people into custody and seized illegal drugs after a search of a house at the 2100 block of Orange Avenue NW yesterday. Investigators seized illegal narcotics, money, and a gun from the home, according to police. The two occupants of the house were found to have outstanding felony warrants from other jurisdictions. Their names have not been released. (WDBJ7)
- A former Roanoke doctor has been sentenced to three years in prison for writing illegal prescriptions. Court documents showed Verna M. Lewis wrote over 3,000 needless prescriptions that mixed powerful painkillers, causing the death of at least four of her patients. As part of her sentence, Lewis was fined $10,000 and agreed to never practice medicine again. (Roanoke Times)
- The French Farmhouse on Church Avenue opened its doors yesterday. Owner Ashley Lawson is offering her take on the home-decor marketplace. (WFIR News Talk Radio)
- Local non-profits are voicing their thoughts about the City of Roanoke's proposed rule that would make it illegal for people to camp out on city sidewalks. (WDBJ7)
