- Dalton Baugess has announced his candidacy for a Roanoke City Council position during this November's election. Baugess is currently an employee with the Salem Fire & EMS Department. He intends to run as a Republican with a platform focused on gun violence prevention using an increased police presence and an initiative to hold elections for school board members in Roanoke City. - If the City of Roanoke wants to renew the lease on the Gainsboro Branch Library, the city will have to negotiate with the Vatican and the Pope. Pope Pius XII gifted the land where the library currently resides in 1941 with the library being completed and opened in 1942. The negotiations would give the City of Roanoke use of the land for 99 years. (Roanoke Times)
